The roadwork readiness within one of the reconstruction stages of Verkhniye Polya Street on the Southern Rockade section from Maryinsky Park Street to the Moscow Automobile Ring Road is estimated to be 70%, according to Mr. Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Urban Planning and Construction.
The Mosinzhproekt Group of Companies is a general contractor and general designer of a number of the Southern Rockade sections.
“The length of the reconstructed road along Verkhniye Polya Street is 2.8 km. As part of its reconstruction, the roadway is being widened. Instead of two traffic lanes, four to six lanes will be constructed, in two traffic directions”, said Mr. Andrey Bochkarev.
According to Deputy Mayor, work on the road construction and the utilities reconstruction continues at the site.
“The reconstruction of the rainwater drainage system, overhead and cable lines is also underway on Verkhniye Polya Street. In addition, the construction of the fire wall along the Moscow Oil Refinery is about two-thirds complete”, noted Mr. Andrey Bochkarev.
Mr. Yuri Kravtsov, CEO, Mosinzhproekt JSC, stressed that the work on the heat supply networks relocation were fully completed.
“In addition, the street lighting on Verkhniye Polya Street has been reconstructed and a block distribution point for receiving and further distributing the electricity has been installed”, pointed out Mr. Yuri Kravtsov.
The head of the holding company added that a six-lane, 600-metre-long road from Maryinsky Park Street towards Verkhniye Polya Street was put into operation in December 2021.
“The underground pedestrian crossing equipped with four lifts for handicapped people has been opened at the intersection of Verkhniye Polya Street and Maryinsky Park Street”, noted Mr. Yuri Kravtsov.
Recall that the Mosinzhproekt Group of Companies is working on three sections within the Southern Rockade project: the construction of the street and road network from Kaspiyskaya Street to 1st Kotlyakovsky Lane, the reconstruction of Verkhniye Polya Street from the Moscow Automobile Ring Road to Maryinsky Park Street and the reconstruction of Donetskaya Street from Podolskaya Street to Kuryanovskaya Embankment.
The Southern Rockade is part of the new transport framework of Moscow, along with the Moscow Speed Diameter and the North-Western Chord. The Rockade will connect the city’s major motorways: the Moscow Automobile Ring Road, Kutuzovsky avenue, Michurinsky avenue, Vernadskogo avenue, Leninsky avenue, Profsoyuznaya Street, Varshavskoye highway, Proletarskiy avenue, Kashirskoye highway, and Lyublinskaya Street.
Today, Mr. Sergei Sobyanin, Mayor of Moscow, has inspected the progress of work at the Southern Rockade section.
“The Southern Rockade is one of the main elements of the transport framework of Moscow. It is more than 40 km long. It runs from Rublevskoye Highway to Verkhniye Polya Street and partially extends to Besedinskoye Highway, crossing up to 12 major highways of the city. These are Mozhaiskoye highway, Michurinsky avenue, Vernadskogo avenue, Leninsky avenue, Profsoyuznaya Street, Kashirskoye highway and Varshavskoye highway – 26 city districts with a population of around 3 million. This is an important highway, which we have been constructing for several years, and this year we have one third left to build. By the end of the year it will be completed”, said Mr. Sergei Sobyanin.
