Another two-track tunnel has been passed in the east of the Big Circle Line

The tunneling of a double-track tunnel from Klenovy Bulvar station under construction on the eastern section of the Big Circle Line (BCL) of the metro to the dismantling chamber near the reconstructed Kashirskaya was completed, the work was carried out by TBM Pobeda, said Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Planning and Construction. Mosinzhproekt Engineering Holding is the managing company to construct new lines and stations of the Moscow Metro.

“Tunnel boring machine “Pobeda” with a diameter of 10 meters laid a double-tracked running tunnel with a length of 1,453 meters from the future Klenovy Bulvar station to the dismantling chamber located near the Kashirskaya station”, said Andrey Bochkarev.

According to him, the tunnel was run at a depth of 10 to 27 meters under the territory of the protected environmental zone with the intersection of the historical museum-reserve “Kolomenskoye”.

“In this regard, during tunnelling the green spaces, nearby buildings and structures in the construction zone, including cultural heritage objects located in the park, have been monitored round-the-clock”, emphasized the deputy mayor.
In turn , Yuri Kravtsov, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC, explained that the work was carried out in conditions of difficult soil geology: “The shield was mainly run in Upper Quaternary deposits of different types of sand and clay with water-saturated sand layers.”

According to the head of the holding, “Pobeda” was manufactured according to the terms of reference of Mosinzhproekt JSC, taking into account the capital’s hydrogeology. “In particular, this giant shield has an improved rotor design with enlarged rock intake windows and a reinforced cutting tool for tunneling in quicksand and hard rocks, and compared to other similar TBM, “Pobeda” has twice as many foam generation channels to soften the rock and reduce the wear of the cutting tool”, said Yuri Kravtsov. He also added that the shield conveyor is equipped with the latest system for determining the volume of the produced rock and a metal detector.

The day before, Sergei Sobyanin, Mayor of Moscow, announced in his social media accounts that the tunneling in the east of the BCL is nearly completed. “We have completed running of one of the tunnels on the section from Klenovy Bulvar to Kashirskaya. It is difficult to build a metro in Nagatinsky Zaton: there are many utilities and buildings above the highway. But Klenovy Bulvar is an important station. It will be possible to switch from it in the future to Biryulyovskaya Line of Moscow Metro, besides, it is next to the popular Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve”, wrote Sergei Sobyanin.

The Big Circle Line is a vital project of the Moscow Metro construction. The line covers more than 70 kilometers; 31 stations will be located, 12 are already open to passengers.
