About 2.4 million square metres of interior premises were finished during the creation of the Big Circle Line (BCL) of metro, according to Mr. Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Urban Planning and Construction.
The Mosinzhproekt Group of Companies is a general designer and general contractor for the construction of new lines and stations of the Moscow Metro.
“The full amount of design and decoration work was carried out in technical and service, and passenger premises of 31 stations. The decoration work only in the passenger areas affected almost 600 thousand square metres, including entrance pavilions, ticket and distribution halls, inclined tunnels of escalators and platform areas”, said Mr. Andrey Bochkarev.
Deputy Mayor specified that both natural stone, in particular, marble and granite, and artificial materials were used during facing works. In particular, engineered quartz and glass fiber reinforced concrete were used in the Moscow metro for the first time.
“In the best traditions of the Moscow Metro, each station is unique in terms of architecture. The design of the Mnyovniki, Terekhovo, Maryina Roshcha, Rizhskaya, Nagatinsky Zaton and Klenovy Bulvar stations were determined through architectural contests”, informed Mr. Andrey Bochkarev.
Mr. Yuri Kravtsov, CEO, Mosinzhproekt JSC, specified that the open contests had been held on the initiative of the Mayor of Moscow and organized by the Mosinzhproekt Group of Companies.
“The Maryina Roshcha station, for which the design was selected through the contest, is the deepest in the BCL: it was constructed by the mining method at a depth of about 70 metres. Its ground concourse has a parallelogram shape with supports in the form of metal balls, and the decoration of the platform area evokes associations with the decoration of noble estates, in particular with porcelain and tiles”, exemplified Mr. Yuri Kravtsov.
The head of the holding explained that this was reminiscent of the style of the pylons decoration: during the production, the white marble was covered with craquelure, i.e. notching in the form of a spider’s web, which gives the effect of small cracks.
The creation of the Big Circle Line is the main project of the national metro construction. Its length is 70 km, and it includes 31 stations. The Big Circle Line connects the existing and future lines of the Moscow Metro, MCC and MCD platforms.
