BY 2023 IT WILL BE POSSIBLE TO LEAVE MOSCOW ALONG 24 OUTBOUND ROUTES, SAYS ANDREY BOCHKAREV

15 outbound routes of the city have been reconstructed over the last ten years

“Traffic on 24 outbound routes in Moscow will be set up by 2023”, said Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Planning and Construction. Mosinzhproekt Engineering Holding is the general contractor and general designer of a number of sections of the South-Eastern Chord and Southern Rockade.

“There are now five outbound routes under construction in the capital with a total length of 383 km. These include a section of the Volokolamskoye Highway from the Moscow Automobile Ring Road to the Leningradskoye Highway, the North-Eastern Chord and South-Eastern Chord, and the Southern Rockade, as well as the Northern Bypass for Kutuzovsky Prospekt. In total, there will be 24 outbound routes in Moscow by 2023,” said Andrey Bochkarev.

According to him, a total of 15 outbound routes of the city have been reconstructed over the last ten years, with a total length of nearly 370 km.

“In fact, there are four highways of the major roads in the city that have not been reconstructed and are not planned: Leninsky and Michurinsky Prospekts, Ostashkovskoe and Altufievskoye Highways,” stressed the Deputy Mayor, recalling that traffic has already started on about 65% of the sections of chord highways.

For his part, Yuri Kravtsov, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC, outlined the role of the holding he heads as a general designer, general contractor and technical customer of key road facilities in the development of the street and road network of the Russian capital.

“The reconstruction of outbound routes continues involving the group of companies’ experts, implementation work of several sections of the South-Eastern Chord and Southern Rockade is underway as well as on other road and transport facilities in the city,” clarified Yuri Kravtsov.

In 2020, Moscow has exceeded its plan for the commissioning of the street and road network. A total of 124.5 km of roads, 25 bridges, overpasses, tunnels, and 23 pedestrian crossings were reconstructed and built. There are no plans to reduce the pace of construction in 2021.

The high rate of road construction places Moscow in the top three in terms of road length growth alongside Beijing and New York. Meanwhile, Moscow is the world’s only megacity where the rate of road development exceeds the rate of building development.
