The works shall be performed under the conditions of constant movement of trains
The construction of a tunnel-type overhead road began at the ninth section of the South-Eastern Chord located between the tracks of Paveletsky direction of Moscow Railway and the Moscow Ring Road, said Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Urban Planning and Construction. Mosinzhproekt Engineering Holding is the general contractor and general designer of a number of sections of the South-Eastern Chord and Southern Lateral Road.
“Within the framework of the construction of the ninth section of the South-Eastern Chord, works have begun on the construction of a tunnel-type overhead road under the tracks of Paveletsky direction of Moscow Railway. The overhead road shall be set up separately under each motor-vehicle traffic direction and shall be conventionally divided into two tunnels”, – said Andrey Bochkarev.
According to the Deputy Mayor, the works shall be performed under the conditions of constant movement of trains of Paveletsky direction of Moscow Railway. In particular, airport shuttle trains “Aeroexpress” to the Domodedovo airport shall pass above the construction site.
Yuri Kravtsov, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC, in his turn, informed that the construction site had already been cleared. “Works on embankment fill of entry and exit pits, as well as works on Russian Railways OJSC utilities network relocation from the tunnel-type overhead road construction site have been completed, works on land cofferdam are being performed”, – explained the head of the holding.
He reminded that works are being performed today at the South-Eastern Chord site on the construction of a whole range of artificial structures. Thus, four overhead roads are being constructed at the eighth section of the South-Eastern Chord, along with five overpasses at the interchange of the chord and Volgogradsky Avenue. One third of works on reconstruction of Shosseynaya Street is completed as part of construction of the new section of the South-Eastern Chord from Shosseynaya Street to Polbina Street.
The launch of traffic along the entire length of the SEC will significantly improve transport services to the south and southeast of the capital, as well as to the New Moscow districts.
The creation of a chord system of highways is the main project for the modern development of the capital’s road and transport framework. North-Western, North-Eastern, South-Eastern Chords and the Southern Lateral Road are aimed at connection of the peripheral areas of Moscow and relieving the load on the center of the city, Third Transport Ring and Moscow Ring Road. Experts found a chord system to be 20% more efficient than a closed loop system.
