The track of the tunnel of more than 1000 metres long
“The tunnel boring machine (TBM) ‘Svetlana’ began driving of the right running tunnel between the Vavilovskaya and Novatorskaya stations on the Troitskaya metro line under construction,” said Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Planning and Construction.
Mosinzhproekt Engineering Holding is a general designer and general contractor to construct the new lines and stations of the Moscow metro.
“The track of the tunnel of more than 1000 metres long, which is being driven by a 6-metre TBM ‘Svetlana’, will pass under a pedestrian alley of Leninsky Prospekt”, specified Andrey Bochkarev.
According to him, construction of the stations at the central section of the Troitskaya line: Vavilovskaya, Akademicheskaya and Krymskaya, has already begun, and the ZIL station is at its project stage.
“Vavilovskaya, from where the TBM started onwards, is at the highest state of completion: the earthwork continues here, and the enclosing structures are almost done”, clarified the Deputy Mayor.
Yuri Kravtsov, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC, specified that tunnel driving between the Vavilovskaya and Novatorskaya stations will be carried out, initially, in fine and silty sands and then in semi-hard loams interspersed with stone chippings.
“TBM will need to pass under a pedestrian underground crossing, the work is constrained by multiple engineering utilities laid within the soil body,” specified the head of the holding.
He clarified, that previously the TBM “Svetlana” had driven the tunnels of the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya, Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya, Nekrasovskaya, as well as the Kalininskaya and Solntsevskaya lines of the capital city’s metro, having driven in total nearly 16 km of tunnels in Moscow.
Right here, two weeks earlier, the tunnel boring machine “Lyudmila”, which is driving the adjacent, left running tunnel towards Novatorskaya, began its work at the interconnecting and shield chamber of the Vavilovskaya station complex. Both tunnels are also being driven towards the Akademicheskaya station under construction on the Troitskaya Line.
Earlier today, Sergei Sobyanin, Mayor of Moscow, announced the start of the second tunnel-driving phase at the section of the Troitskaya metro line between the stations of Vavilovskaya and Novatorskaya. “Driving of the second tunnel between Vavilovskaya and Novatorskaya on the Troitskaya metro line under construction began. Driving of all the tunnels at the adjacent section, from Novatorskaya to Bachurinskaya, is near to completion. Construction of the stations is in progress at the central section of the line: Vavilovskaya, Akademicheskaya, Krymskaya, with ZIL being at its design stage”, said Sergei Sobyanin.
It is noteworthy that the Troitskaya metro line being 40 km long will connect the platforms of the Moscow Central Circle (MCC) with the city district of Troitsk, going through the Southern, South-Western, Troitsk and Novomoskovsky districts of the capital city. About one million people live near the new stations, and several hundred thousand more work or study nearby.
