FIRE SHUTTERS HAVE BEEN TESTED AT THE SOKOLNIKI STATION OF THE BIG CIRCLE LINE OF THE MOSCOW METRO

“Fire safety systems unique to the Moscow Metro have been tested at the Sokolniki station of the north-eastern section of the Big Circle Line (BCL) of the Moscow Metro”, said Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Planning and Construction.

Mosinzhproekt Group of Companies is a general designer and general contractor to build new lines and stations of the Moscow Metro.

“Fire safety systems are installed in all new metro stations, but the design and size of the system used at Sokolniki are unique. These are special automatic shutters installed over the balcony gallery of the Sokolniki station leading to the interchange with the same name station on the Sokolnicheskaya Line. In the event of a fire, they will enable the entire balcony to be completely shut in 30-40 seconds, protecting the passengers from the products of combustion”, specified Andrey Bochkarev.

The Deputy Mayor added that the results of the individual tests are used to assess the performance of the systems and to eliminate any deficiencies identified.

In addition to Sokolniki, the north-eastern BCL section includes the Rizhskaya and Maryina Roshcha stations under construction, a connecting line to the Nizhegoroskoye electric depot, and the already built Aviamotornaya, Lefortovo and Elektrozavodskaya stations, temporarily operating as part of the Nekrasovskaya line.

Sergei Sobyanin, Mayor of Moscow, held a technical launch of the north-eastern BCL section on 30 November.

The construction of the Big Circle Line is the main project of the Moscow Metro construction. Its length will exceed 70 km, and it will accommodate 31 stations, 22 of which are already servicing the passengers.
