FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER MOSINZHPROEKT WILL DEVELOP AN ENTIRE LINE OF MOSCOW METRO USING BIM TECHNOLOGIES

Application of advanced BIM solutions will help accelerate opening of the new metro sections

“It is planned to create the first unified information model of one of the promising metro lines”, said Yuri Kravtsov, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC.

Mosinzhproekt Engineering Holding is a general designer and general contractor to construct new lines and stations of the Moscow metro.

“On its birthday, Mosinzhproekt opens a new page in the digitalization of the national metro construction. We intend to create an information model for the entire metro line. Prior to this, BIM technologies were used only in development of some stations. In such a way, for instance, Terekhovo and Kuntsevskaya on the Big Circle Line were designed”, said Yuri Kravtsov.

Head of Engineering Holding added that a unified information model would allow for more precise calculation of the required quantity of materials and equipment, and prevent errors and collisions.

“Application of advanced BIM solutions will help accelerate opening of the new metro sections, and provide Moscow residents with the stations within walking distance”, said Yuri Kravtsov.

He highlighted that Mosinzhproekt is willing to use digital technologies as widely as possible at all stages of project implementation, i.e. in design, construction, and operation. Mosinzhproekt Institute, which is part of Holding, was acknowledged the BIM Company of the Year as a member of the Russian BIM Leaders Club.

Yuri Kravtsov reminded that Mosinzhproekt celebrates its 63rd anniversary with a solid portfolio of BIM projects. Among those, both the already implemented ones – the Luzhniki Big Sports Arena and Irina Viner-Usmanova Palace of Gymnastics – and the ones under development – National Space Center (NSC) and the Attraction public space in Magnitogorsk.

Earlier, Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Planning and Construction, reported that active work is being done in the capital in line with implementation of information modelling (BIM) approach in the metro facilities design. “This development, which uses global best practices, will speed up the process of creating new stations and electric depots. Now, within the pilot project, the specialists are rapidly developing the required base of components that will constitute the information model, and introduce automation into operational processes”, said Andrey Bochkarev.

Engineering Holding Mosinzhproekt traces its history back to 28 October 1958, when the design institute of the same name was founded. During the Soviet times, Mosinzhproekt specialists took part in construction of infrastructure facilities, underground utilities, and the capital’s urban motorway network. From 2011 onwards, the company operates the key urban development programmes in Moscow. At present, it is one of the largest engineering holdings in Russia. As per the international rating of ENR’s 2021 Top 250 Global Contractors, Mosinzhproekt took the 114th place among 250 world largest construction companies.
