INTERCHANGES ARE BEING ERECTED AT THE STATIONS UNDER CONSTRUCTION IN THE NORTH-EAST SECTION OF THE BCL

The interchange hubs at these stations are currently over 60% complete

“The active construction of interchanges from the stations under construction to the operating stations on the north-eastern section of the Big Circle Line (BCL) is underway”, said Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Planning and Construction. Mosinzhproekt Engineering Holding is a general designer and general contractor to construct new lines and stations of the Moscow metro.

“The construction of interchanges from the deep level underground stations of the north-eastern section of the BCL Maryina Roshcha and Rizhskaya to the existing stations of the same name on the radial metro lines is carried out by the mining method. The interchange hubs at these stations are currently over 60% complete, in general,” said Andrey Bochkarev.

According to him, during the construction of the Rizhskaya interchange hub, the future BCL station was cross passaged to the existing station of the Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya Line, the main structures of the escalator tunnel were completed, the internal structures of the interchange hub are being installed, and waterproofing works for the subsequent installation of 4 escalators are in progress.

“It has been already scheduled to start finishing work on the passenger area of this interchange this year,” explained the Deputy Mayor.

For his part, Yuri Kravtsov, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC, said that during the construction of the interchange at the neighboring Maryina Roshcha station of the BCL, the tunneling work on one of the access corridors and the interchange passes to the existing station of the same name of the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya Line was completed. In addition, tunnelling of the 9.5 meter diameter escalator tunnel for 4 escalators, tension station, and the steel structure is complete. The builders are constructing the main and internal structures of the interchange hub, preparing to finish the passenger area with natural stone. All works are being carried out in restricted conditions at a depth of more than 60 meters.

“At the other station of the section, Sokolniki, where two concourses and two interchanges to the station of the same name of the Sokolnicheskaya Line are envisaged, the main structures of the interchanges located in concourse 1 are more than 80% complete. By the end of the year, it is planned to complete the interlinkage of the stations and begin the architectural finishing and installation of the utility systems,” explained the head of the holding.

He also recalled that the construction of the interchange hubs at all stations of the north-eastern section is being carried out around the clock in difficult mining and geological conditions and under constant monitoring, due to the fact that the works are carried out in the proximity of the existing metro tunnels.

As a reminder, the north-eastern section of the BCL will host 6 stations: Maryina Roshcha, Rizhskaya and Sokolniki are still under construction, while Elektrozavodskaya, Lefortovo and Aviamotornaya are already open to passengers and operate as part of the Nekrasovskaya Line.
