LAUNCHING OF THE MAIN SPAN OF THE BRIDGE ACROSS THE NOVINKI BACKWATER HAS BEEN COMPLETED

“Launching of the spans of the bridge across the Novinki Backwater has been successfully completed”, said Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Planning and Construction.

Mosinzhproekt Group of Companies is a general contractor for the construction of the facility.

“As part of the final stage, the last 59 metres of the span have been launched. This brings the total length of the main span of the bridge to 292 metres. The bridge structure, including retaining walls, is 615 metres long”, said Andrey Bochkarev.

According to the Deputy Mayor, the construction of the bridge is a key element of the section of the road network being formed here. It will connect Simonovskaya Embankment under construction and Marc Chagall Embankment, thus enabling to form an additional route alternative to the Third Ring Road.

According to Konstantin Maslakov, General Director of MIPSTROY 1 (the leading construction division of Mosinzhproekt Group), the total area of the installed spans exceeded 7,800 square metres, with a total weight of 4,250 tonnes of metal structures.

“The bridge consists of two types of spans: the reinforced concrete structures are installed on the bank side and the metal structures are installed directly above the water surface. In this case, the use of metal structures made it possible to ensure the dimensions required for ship traffic”, said Konstantin Maslakov.

The head of MIPSTROY 1 also added that the bridge had its engineering specifics.

“The above-water part of the span is supported by two piers. They are installed on a high piled structure directly in the water area of the backwater. In addition, these are angled piers (they are located at an angle of 75 degrees), which is due to the configuration of the terrain – the backwater adjoins the main channel of the Moskva River at an angle”, said Konstantin Maslakov.

Recall that the bridge construction is part of the transport framework development project at the territory of the former Likhachev factory. The bridge will connect the ZIL complex development territories and improve the transport accessibility of the new residential areas. In addition, the bridge will also link the Simonovskaya Embankment under construction with the Yuzhnoportoviy district, which will relieve the Third Ring Road (TRR), Varshavskoye Shosse and Prospect Andropova.
