The mounting of the main dome of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Ostankinsky district of Moscow is complete, according to Mr. Yuri Kravtsov, CEO, Mosinzhproekt JSC.
The Mosinzhproekt Group of Companies is a general designer and general contractor of the project.
“Work on the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Berezovaya Alley has entered its final straight. The main dome was mounted on the central church drum, which had been pre-assembled on the ground and clad in stainless steel with a titanium nitride exterior coating”, informed Mr. Yuri Kravtsov.
According to him, the dome weighs around 12 tonnes and is almost 12 metres high, with the construction workers working at over 53 metres above ground level after it has been mounted.
“Four small domes, each weighing four tonnes, have already been mounted after all the preparatory work, the second-floor ceilings and brickwork of the drums have been completed and bells were installed in the belfries”, explained Mr. Yuri Kravtsov.
He added that the church walls were built with a reinforced concrete frame and spandrel brick walls, while the ceilings were reinforced concrete vaults.
“A total of more than 2,500 cubic metres of concrete has now been laid, out of which 1,100 in the foundation section and more than 5,000 cubic metres in brickwork”, specified the head of the engineering holding.
He mentioned that the construction workers were further planning the installation of crosses on the church’s domes, roofing, interior plastering of walls and vaults for further painting, installation of a lift, external and internal utilities, as well as improvement of the surrounding area.
“Upon completion of all the work, the total area of the church will exceed 2,200 square metres, and the height will be about 60 metres. It will accommodate more than 1,500 parishioners, and the building will be adapted for handicapped people, in particular a lift is provided for”, stressed Mr. Yuri Kravtsov.
He also recalled that the design was carried out by Mosinzhproekt Institute (the parent design organisation of the Mosinzhproekt Group of Companies) using elements of the information modelling technology, while the construction and installation were carried out by employees of Construction Technology Development Administration JSC, which was also part of the Group of Companies.
The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is being erected on the territory of a former industrial zone at the intersection of Berezovaya Alley and Selskokhozyaystvennaya Street in North-Eastern Administrative District of Moscow. It will be one of the largest temple complexes in the capital and dedicated to Russian construction workers. The work is being implemented in close cooperation with the Moscow Patriarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church.
