Commissioning of Narodnoe Opolchenie station and Mnevniki station of the first stage of the Western section of the Big Circle Line (BCL) of the Moscow Metro required enormous efforts from metro builders using special technical solutions, informed the Deputy Mayor of Moscow in the government of Moscow on urban policy and the construction Andrey Bochkarev. Mosinzhproekt Engineering Holding acts as an operator for constructing new lines and stations of the Moscow metro.
The section of the Big Circle Line with Narodnoe Opolchenie station and Mnevniki station was erected in difficult hydrogeological conditions. In addition, the tunneling between the stations towards Mnevniki station was excavated under the Moscow Canal and near the trestle supports at the intersection of Krasnopresnensky Prospekt and Narodnogo Opolcheniya Street,” said Andrey Bochkarev.
More than 3.5 thousand builders were involved during the most active works on both construction sites.
In turn, Yuri Kravtsov, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC, said that the construction of the two stations was conducted by cut and cover method.
“During their construction, more than 360,000 cubic meters of soil were developed, more than 1,300 km of cabling and wiring products, and more than 37 thousand pieces of engineering equipment were installed. During the construction of Narodnoe Opolchenie station, in addition to the relocation of a large number of utility networks out of the construction zone, a special method of water drawdown, selective carburizing, and deep freezing of the soil was used during the excavation of the station complex due to complex hydrogeology and mobile soils,” Yuri Kravtsov explained.
In addition, both stations are equipped with modern systems of smoke control, ventilation, water supply, fire suppression, communication, and power supply.
Yuri Kravtsov also reminded that the construction of Terekhovo station and “Kuntsevskaya station as part of the second phase of the Western section of BCL is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
Today, the Mayor of Moscow Sergei Sobyanin opened Narodnoe Opolchenie and Mnevniki stations located at the Big Circle Line.
The construction of the BCL is the most ambitious project in the history of the Moscow Metro construction; its length will be 70 km, the new line will include 31 stations. The BCL will be the longest underground circular subway line globally, surpassing Line 2 of the Beijing Subway with a length of 57 km.
