NEW SMOKE EXHAUST SYSTEM IS INSTALLED AT THE VARSHAVSKAYA BCL STATION

“Work has been completed on the installation of a modern smoke exhaust system at the reconstructed Varshavskaya station of the Big Circle Line of the Moscow Metro”, said Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Planning and Construction.

Mosinzhproekt Group of Companies is a general designer and general contractor to build new lines and stations of the Moscow Metro.

“Special columns with fans have been installed on the platform, which will extract smoke from the station through sub-platform channels in case of emergency”, said Andrey Bochkarev.

The head of the Construction Complex added that as part of the reconstruction, work was also completed on the traction step-down substation (TSS) to supply power to the entire station complex.

Yuri Kravtsov, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC, specified that, in addition, work on upgrading the utilities at Varshavskaya is being completed.

“New fire-safety systems are being installed. These include an automatic fire alarm system, a gas fire extinguishing system, fire warning system, and systems of evacuation management and smoke control”, said Yuri Kravtsov.

According to the head of the engineering holding, installation of special smoke detectors, smoke shutters and optical sensors for tunnel fire detection has begun. The final stage includes the renovation of the automation and telemechanics for train running, as well as the general ventilation system.

The Kashirskaya and Varshavskaya stations of the former Kakhovskaya Line are being reconstructed to integrate them into the BCL. Kakhovskaya has been operating as part of the Big Circle Line since 2021.

The construction of the Big Circle Line is the main project of the Moscow Metro construction. Its length will exceed 70 km, and it will accommodate 31 stations, 22 of which are already servicing the passengers.

Earlier, Sergei Sobyanin, Mayor of Moscow, has examined the reconstruction progress of the Varshavskaya station of the Big Circle Line of the Moscow Metro.

“A great deal of work on the BCL construction is being completed. We are now in the southern section, it is the old Kakhovskaya – Kashirskaya line, which was the shortest and the most unpopular. Its complete reconstruction, in fact, new construction, integration into the BCL is underway”, said Sergei Sobyanin.
