Landslide processes must be steadied
“Preparation for construction of a bridge across the Bitsa River, being part of development of the tenth section of the South-Eastern Chord (SEC) from the Moscow Automobile Ring Road (MKAD) to Solntsevo-Butovo-Varshavskoye highway, kicks off”, said Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Planning and Construction.
Mosinzhproekt Engineering Holding acts as the general contractor and general designer of several sections of the South-Eastern Chord.
“Preparation for construction of a landslide protection structure supported by bored piles forefront of the abutment pier of the bridge across the Bitsa River is in progress. Landslide processes must be steadied prior to the start of the bridge construction”, said Andrey Bochkarev.
According to him, construction of an overhead pedestrian crossing over the Moscow Automobile Ring Road (MKAD) and an elevated exit from MKAD to the SEC down from the city is under way at this section as well.
“Besides, construction of a flyover across Varshavskoe highway and the tracks of the second Moscow Central Diameter (MCD-2) continues. Currently, the work on removal of engineering utilities away from the construction zone is under way”, Deputy Mayor said.
Yuri Kravtsov, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC, added that a 65-meter tunnel is being built at the section under the 32nd kilometer of the Moscow Automobile Ring Road (MKAD).
“Tunnel protective screen is accomplished at 60%. It will enable construction activities without any traffic restriction along the Ring Road”, specified Yuri Kravtsov.
It was reported earlier, that the ninth section of the SEC, which runs from the tracks of the Paveletsky suburban railway line of Moscow Railway to the Moscow Automobile Ring Road (MKAD), is ready by more than a third. As part of construction of this section, it is envisioned to build more than 10 km of roads, including the road network adjacent to the main route of the SEC.
As expected, the start of traffic along the South-Eastern Chord will lessen the congestion load on the adjacent highways, and will significantly improve transport services to the South and Southeast of the capital city, as well as to New Moscow.
The chord system of high-speed highways in the capital, inclusive of the North-Western, North-Eastern, South-Eastern Chords and the South Rockade, is the principal project at the current stage of development of the capital’s road transport network. The chords are designed to interconnect the remote districts of the capital, thus lessening the load on central highways, the Third Ring Road (TTK) and the MKAD.
