“Construction of the tunnel under the 32nd km of the Moscow Automobile Ring Road is in full swing on the southern section of the Moscow High-Speed Diameter (MSD) from the Moscow Automobile Ring Road to the Solntsevo-Butovo-Varshavskoye Highway”, said Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Planning and Construction.
Mosinzhproekt Engineering Holding acts as a general contractor and general designer of several sections of the Moscow High-Speed Diameter (MSD).
“The tunnelling shield has been fully completed that will enable to avoid traffic restrictions on the Moscow Automobile Ring Road during excavation. The upper and lower tiers of the tunnel shafts have also been worked out. Work on the application of concrete on the side and top structures of the tunnelling shield in the cross galleries is underway”, said Andrey Bochkarev.
According to the Deputy Mayor, the tunnel is 102.5 metres long, 64.8 metres of which is the enclosed part and the rest is the open ramp sections.
Yuri Kravtsov, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC, added that a second tunnel under the Simferopolskoye Highway was also being constructed on this section.
“Its length will reach 128.1 metres. The pile foundation has been laid and concreting of the floor slab for the first stage of this tunnel has been completed”, said Yuri Kravtsov.
The head of the engineering holding specified that the section involved the construction of about 12 km of roads. There will be a total of seven engineering structures: in addition to two tunnels, a bridge across the Bitsa River and four overflies will be built.
At the beginning of the year, Sergei Sobyanin, Mayor of Moscow, announced about the decision to stitch together the North-East and South-East Chords into a new city highway named the Moscow High-Speed Diameter. The diameter will relieve the major highways of the capital and improve the environmental situation.
