SEVEN FLYOVERS WILL BE BUILT AT THE INTERSECTION OF THE SOUTHERN ROCKADE AND THE SOUTH-EASTERN CHORD

This section of the Southern Rockade is 36% complete

“Seven flyovers, which are more than 2 km long, are planned to be built as part of the construction of the traffic interchange at the intersection of the South-Eastern Chord and the Southern Rockade”, said Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Planning and Construction.

Mosinzhproekt Engineering Holding is the general contractor and general designer of a number of sections of the South-Eastern Chord and Southern Rockade.

“The interchange will be built as part of the South Rockade construction on the section from Kaspiyskaya Street to 1st Kotlyakovsky Lane. This is a complex engineering project, which involves the construction of ten engineering structures: seven flyovers and three pedestrian underpasses,” said Andrey Bochkarev.

According to the Deputy Mayor, this section of the Southern Rockade is 36% complete. More than 500 workers and 65 pieces of equipment are working on the site.

For his past, Yuri Kravtsov, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC, informed that seven of the ten piers of the flyover along the main route of Kantemirovskaya Street from the intersection with Proletarsky Prospekt have been erected. The superstructure is 20% complete, blocks are being consolidated on the slipway and on temporary supports

“Nine of the fourteen piers of the flyover at the Kantemirovskaya exit to the South-Eastern Chord have already been erected, and the construction of the superstructure has also started here. In addition, the builders have started constructing the flyover along the main route of Kantemirovskaya Street via Proletarsky Avenue, and the retaining walls are currently being built,” said Yuri Kravtsov.

According to him, all three underground pedestrian crossings under construction across Kantemirovskaya Street will be equipped with lifts for the convenience of low-mobility groups of people. The underground section, stairwells and lift shafts of the three crossings are under construction.

The reconstruction of Kantemirovskaya street from Bekhtereva street to Proletarsksky avenue is also underway. The power networks have been rebuilt, the rainwater drainage system is being completed and the bottom layer of the first phase asphalt pavement is being laid.

The Southern Rockade is part of Moscow new system of chord highways along with the South-Eastern, North-Eastern, and North-Western Chords. The Rockade will connect the capital’s major motorways: the Moscow Automobile Ring Road, Kutuzovsky Prospekt, Michurinsky Prospekt, Prospekt Vernadskogo, Leninsky Prospekt, Profsoyuznaya Street, Varshavskoye Shosse, Proletarsky Prospekt, Kashirskoye Shosse, and Lublinskaya Street. The creation of a system of chord highways is a key project for the development of the road and transportation framework in Moscow. The chords will make straight access to the remote areas of the city, reducing the overall load on the street and road network of the central districts, the Moscow Automobile Ring Road, and the Third Ring Road. Currently, 65% of the sections of the chorded highway system have been put into operation.
