The Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin has opened the first starting complex of the Sokol electric depot after reconstruction on the Zamoskvoretskaya line of the Moscow metro. Mosinzhproekt Engineering Holding is the operator of the Moscow Metro development program.
“A huge rolling stock operation plant was built. The second phase will reconstruct the morally and physically obsolete existing buildings. This allows the maintenance staff to work normally, the crews to rest in the administrative and residential buildings, to do a high-quality repair of rolling stock and ensures the safety and quality of service to the Muscovites,” noted the Mayor of Moscow Sergei Sobyanin during the opening.
According to him, 11 electric depots have been built and reconstructed in recent years, which is half of all depots of the Moscow Metro, operating as whole factories for cleaning and disinfection, repair and maintenance of rolling stock against the background of the old reconstructed electric depots.
“In the coming years, it is expected to build and reconstruct another six such “factories” to run the Big Circle Line, radial lines, which we are building,” explained the Mayor of Moscow.
Thanks to the reconstruction on the territory of the old depot there was built a modern depot-repair building with a group of tracks, a gas boiler house, a traction-reducing substation, a compressor station, sewage treatment facilities, an automatic fire-fighting system with a reservoir, as well as a new administrative and residential building.
Recall that Sokol depot with car-repair production has been operating since 1938. For more than 80 years of operation, the buildings and equipment no longer met the modern standards of the Moscow Metro and needed to be modernized.
Reconstruction of existing and construction of new electric depots is an important component of the Moscow Metro development program. The depots ensure uninterrupted operation of both operating and new lines of the Moscow Metro.
