THE AREA NEAR THE SOKOLNIKI BCL METRO STATION TO BE PAVED WITH RED CLINKER BRICK

Еhe colour refers to the red Sokolnicheskaya metro line

“Paving of the area near the Sokolniki station at the north-eastern section of the Big Circle Metro Line (BCL) with red clinker brick began”, said Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Planning and Construction.

Mosinzhproekt Engineering Holding is a general designer and general contractor to construct the new lines and stations of the Moscow metro.

“As the spring sets in, improvement of the area adjacent to the Sokolniki station shall resume. Construction of a concrete bed to enable paving with red clinker brick began. In overall, 15 thousand square metres of the central alley, leading to Sokolniki park from the metro station, will be paved”, said Andrey Bochkarev.

According to the Head of Construction Complex, clinker brick produced in Russia is used.

“It is made from a specific clay variety fired at the temperature of about 1200 degrees, which adds different shades of red to the material”, specified Andrey Bochkarev.

As stated by Yuri Kravtsov, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC, the overall improvement of the adjacent area covers nearly 40 thousand square metres.

“As envisioned bythe authors of the concept of improvement, the design and architecture firm Megabudka, the colour of paving brick refers to the red Sokolnicheskaya line, the oldest line of the Moscow metro. Five ventilation booths located in the alley will also be fitted-out with red clinker brick. Such fit-out solution will help integrate the engineering structures into the surroundings”, said Yuri Kravtsov.

The Head of the Holding added that the centrepiece of the public space restoration represents a pedestrian alley from the metro towards the entrance to Sokolniki park, which is to be planted with trees and shrubbery.

“It will also feature benches with flowerbeds, lanterns and other small architectural forms”, specified Yuri Kravtsov.

The overall construction completion of the north-eastern section of the Big Metro Circle is 86%. In addition to Sokolniki, it includes the stations of Rizhskaya and Maryina Roshcha under construction, a connecting line to the Nizhegorodskoye electric depot, as well as the already built stations of Aviamotornaya, Lefortovo, Elektrozavodskaya, temporarily operating as part of the Nekrasovskaya metro line.

Construction of the Big Circle Line is the main project of the Moscow Metro construction. Its length will exceed 70 km, and it will accommodate 31 stations, 22 of which are already servicing the passengers.
