THE “ELENA” TBM HAS PASSED MORE THAN HALF OF THE TUNNEL IN THE EAST OF THE BCL OF THE MOSCOW METRO

“The left running tunnel between the transfer chamber beside the Klenovy Bulvar station under construction and the Kashirskaya station on the eastern section of the Big Circle Line (BCL) of the Moscow Metro is 60% complete”, said Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Planning and Construction.

Mosinzhproekt Engineering Holding is a general designer and general contractor to construct new lines and stations of the Moscow metro.

“The six-meter tunnel boring machine “Elena” is implementing the tunneling of the single-track tunnel with a length of more than 970 meters. The TBM has passed the midpoint across the planned route. The shield is operating in mixed soils, mainly in fine grade sands and clayed soils at a depth of 15 to 41 meters in the technical area of the Zamoskvoretskaya Line under the Andropov Avenue and the territory of the Sadovniki city park”, said the Deputy Mayor.

He reminded that the “Olga” TBM completed the tunneling of the neighboring tunnel in October of the current year.

Yuri Kravtsov, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC, added that the launch of the “Elena” shield was the 70th on the BCL.

“Now, in addition to “Elena”, there are three other tunnel boring machines continuing to work on the line under construction. “Esmina”, a six-meter shield, is carrying out tunneling of a link line to the future Aminyevskoye electric depot. “Victoria” and “Lily”, ten-meter TBMs, are implementing tunnelling of double-track tunnels on the eastern section of the Big Circle Line,” explained Yuri Kravtsov.

The Kashirskaya station is under reconstruction, whereby it will become part of the BCL jointly with other stations of the Kakhovskaya Line. The Klenovy Bulvar station together with the Nagatinsky Zaton, Pechatniki, and Tekstilshchiki stations is part of the eastern section of the Big Circle Line with a length of more than 11 km. Its opening will improve transport accessibility to a number of districts in the south-east of Moscow.

The construction of the Big Circle Line of the Moscow metro is the flagship project of the Moscow Metro construction. It is 70 kilometers long with 31 stations, 12 of which are already open to passengers.
