THE ‘OLGA’ TUNNEL BORING MACHINE WILL TUNNEL THROUGH THE TECHNICAL ZONE OF THE OPERATING METRO

“The ‘Olga’ tunnel boring machine (TBM), which is carrying out work on the right running tunnel between the Vavilovskaya and Akademicheskaya stations of the prospective Troitskaya metro line, will cross the impact zone of the existing metro facilities”, said Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Planning and Construction.

Mosinzhproekt Group of Companies is a general designer and general contractor to construct new lines and stations of the Moscow Metro.

“From 3 to 7 December, the ‘Olga’ TBM will cover 40 metres of the technical zone of the operating metro facilities, passing under the Akademicheskaya station complex of the Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya Line and the adjacent tunnels”, said Andrey Bochkarev.

According to him, the ‘Marina’ TBM completed tunnelling of the adjacent left running tunnel last week.

Yuri Kravtsov, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC, explained that the TBM moves with an average rate of 9 metres per day.

“The ‘Olga’ TBM has already covered almost 2.4 km, which is more than 90% of the scheduled route”, specified Yuri Kravtsov.

According to the head of the engineering holding, all work is being carried out in the regular mode, with round-the-clock monitoring of the condition of the surrounding structures to avoid any slightest impact on the operating transport facility.

The 40 km long Troitskaya metro line will connect the platforms of the Moscow Central Circle (MCC) with the city district of Troitsk, going through the Southern, South-Western, Troitsky and Novomoskovsky districts of the capital city. The expected daily passenger traffic flow is somewhat 100 thousand people per day. About 1 million people live near the new stations, and several hundred thousand more work or study nearby.
