THE PROSPEKT VERNADSKOGO STATION CONNECTS THE BCL WITH THE FIRST MOSCOW METRO LINE

It’s an example of high-tech architecture

“The newly-opened station Prospekt Vernadskogo of the Big Circle Line (BCL) is connected through a cross-walk with the station of the same name of the oldest line of the Moscow Metro – the Sokolnicheskaya Line. Along with that, the design of the latter initially embraced the possibility of developing a transfer station”, said Yuri Kravtsov, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC.

Mosinzhproekt Engineering Holding is a general designer and general contractor to construct the new lines and stations of the Moscow Metro.

“It is possible to change from the newly-opened BCL station Prospekt Vernadskogo onto the red line, the oldest one of the Moscow Metro. When designing the Prospekt Vernadskogo station on the Sokolnicheskaya Line that was opened in 1963, the metro builders envisioned a specific chamber to integrate the prospective metro lines”, said Yuri Kravtsov.

According to him, it was in that chamber that the transfer was built. Passengers using the Prospekt Vernadskogo station of the BCL can reach it along the purposefully designed balconies within the platform area.

“Figuratively speaking, we reached out to the metro builders of the past years, who designed the future of the Moscow underground and did their work for the long run. At that, the contemporary trends were incorporated in the appearance of the new Prospekt Vernadskogo station”, specified the Head of Engineering Holding.

Co-ordination of the engineering utilities of the old and new lines was accomplished by the employees of MIP-Stroy No. 1, LLC, a subsidiary of Mosinzhproekt JSC.

“In particular, the builders installed power supply, ventilation, communications and video surveillance systems, as well as the scope of other utilities”, said Konstantin Maslakov, General Director of MIP-Stroy No. 1, LLC.

The BCL station is designed in the hi-tech style. Black granite columns spaced along the platform and the light gray ceiling collocate with the bright colors of the railway track walls.

It is noteworthy, that launch into operation of the ten stations of the Big Circle Line: Terekhovo, Kuntsevskaya, Davydkovo, Aminyevskaya, Michurinskiy Prospekt, Prospekt Vernadskogo, Novatorskaya, Vorontsovskaya, Zyuzino, and Kakhovskaya, is the largest one-time launch in the history of the Moscow Metro.

The construction of the Big Circle Line of the Moscow Metro is the main project of the Moscow Metro construction. Its length will exceed 70 km, and it will accommodate 31 stations, 22 of which are already servicing the passengers.
