“The ‘Svetlana’ tunnel boring machine (TBM) has started the construction of the right running tunnel between the prospective Akademicheskaya and Krymskaya stations of the Troitskaya Line”, said Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Planning and Construction.
Mosinzhproekt Group of Companies is a general designer and general contractor to build new lines and stations of the Moscow Metro.
“Almost a month ago, tunnelling of the left running tunnel started between the Akademicheskaya and Krymskaya stations of the prospective Troitskaya Line, and currently the construction of the neighbouring right tunnel has begun”, informed Andrey Bochkarev.
The head of the Construction Complex recalled that the work on the left running tunnel was being carried out by the ‘Natalia’ TBM. In addition, tunnelling of the running lines between ZIL and Krymskaya, as well as Vavilovskaya and Akademicheskaya on the central section is underway. Tunnelling of both tunnels of the Vavilovskaya – Novatorskaya running line has been completed.
Yuri Kravtsov, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC, specified that the ‘Svetlana’ TBM would have to cover about 2.5 km in fine sand and sandstone soil.
“The tunnel route will go under Dmitry Ulyanov Street, Bolshaya Cheryomushkinskaya Street and Sevastopolsky Prospekt, as well as the tracks and platform of the Moscow Central Circle”, specified Yuri Kravtsov.
The head of the engineering holding added that ‘Svetlana’ is one of the most experienced tunnel boring machines in Moscow.
“During its work in Moscow, the TBM has covered over 17.5 km of tunnels during the construction of certain sections of the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya, Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya, Kalininskaya, Nekrasovskaya, Solntsevskaya and Troitskaya Lines of the Moscow metro”, specified Yuri Kravtsov.
The construction of the more than 40-kilometre Troitskaya Line is proceeding in stages: in addition to the construction of the central section from the ZIL station to the Novatorskaya station, the construction of the adjacent section from the Novatorskaya station to the Bachurinskaya station is underway.
In total, nine stations located on these two sections are in the zone of responsibility of Mosinzhproekt Group of Companies: ZIL, Krymskaya, Akademicheskaya, Vavilovskaya, Novatorskaya, Universitet Druzhby Narodov, Generala Tyuleneva, Tyutchevskaya and Mamyri.
The Troitskaya metro line will run from MCC to the city district of Troitsk. The line is expected to be used by around 100 thousand people daily. In overall, more than 1 million people live within the reach of the new line, with several hundred thousand more working or studying there.
