THE SOKOLNIKI BCL STATION IS BEING PREPARED TO BE CONNECTED TO THE RED LINE

Two interchanges are being constructed

“Preparations are underway to link the Sokolniki station of the Big Circle Line (BCL) with the concourse of the same name station on the Sokolnicheskaya line”, said Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Planning and Construction.

Mosinzhproekt Engineering Holding is a general designer and general contractor to construct new lines and stations of the Moscow metro.

“Two interchanges are being constructed to distribute passenger flows. The first will enable to interchange from the concourse of the Sokolniki station of the red line to the BCL station. Now the cladding is being removed from the wall separating the Sokolniki radial line from the new station, and preparations are being made to dismantle it. The second interchange, from the Big Circle Line to the Sokolnicheskaya line, leads to the platform end of the red line station”, said Andrey Bochkarev.

According to the head of the Construction Complex, the landscaping of the area around the station is also underway. The central pedestrian walkway leading from the metro to the Sokolniki Park entrance is being paved with red clinker bricks. Trees and shrubs will also be planted, and benches, flowerbeds, lanterns and other small architectural forms will be placed here.

Yuri Kravtsov, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC, specified that both interchanges are created in the first concourse of the BCL station, which also provides entrance to the metro from the Rusakovskaya Street in addition to distributing functions. Passengers will be able to go directly to the Big Circle Line platform or take the crossing to the red line.

“Architectural and finishing work is now underway in concourse 1. The walls are lined with slabs of marble and granite. Both concourses of the Sokolniki BCL station under construction will be designed in black and grey”, added Yuri Kravtsov.

The head of the engineering holding also said that the decoration of the BCL station is dedicated to the work of metro construction workers. Images styled as photographs and posters from the 1940s and 50s have already been mounted on the track walls and the balcony. The installation of utilities on the ceiling of the platform section is nearly complete and the installation of panels with the Moscow Metro logo is underway.

In addition to Sokolniki, the north-eastern BCL section includes the Rizhskaya and Maryina Roshcha stations under construction, a connecting line to the Nizhegoroskoye electric depot, and the already built Aviamotornaya, Lefortovo and Elektrozavodskaya stations, temporarily operating as part of the Nekrasovskaya line.
