THE SOUTHERN ROCKADE SECTION FROM THE MARYINSKY PARK STREET TO THE MOSCOW AUTOMOBILE RING ROAD IS NEARLY 40% COMPLETE

The safe passage of pedestrians will be ensured

“The Southern Rockade section from Maryinsky Park Street to the Moscow Automobile Ring Road is 38% compete”, said Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Planning and Construction.

Mosinzhproekt Engineering Holding is the general contractor and general designer of several sections of the Southern Rockade.

“It is planned to build and reconstruct 17.1 km of roads on the Southern Rockade section from Maryinsky Park Street to the Moscow Automobile Ring Road, including the reconstruction of Verkhniye Polya Street and the construction of an underground pedestrian crossing at the intersection of the Verkhniye Polya Street and Maryinsky Park Street,” said Andrey Bochkarev.

The Deputy Mayor specified that the increased traffic capacity of Verkhniye Polya Street would improve transport services in Maryino, Lyublino and Kapotnya districts.

“The safe passage of pedestrians across Verkhniye Polya Street and Maryinsky Park Street will be ensured through the construction of a pedestrian underpass, and the traffic capacity will be increased at the junction of these two streets by eliminating the ground level pedestrian crossing,” explained the head of the Moscow Complex of Urban Planning Policy and Construction.

Yuri Kravtsov, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC, added that in addition to the construction of the street and road network a large scope of work on the reconstruction of utility systems is foreseen.

“In addition, the construction of new ground public transport stop pavilions and neighbourhood improvement is planned, which will include arranging of 4 ha lawn, planting 500 trees and more than a thousand shrubs,” added Yuri Kravtsov.

It was previously reported that the reconstruction of Donetskaya Street was more than 50% completed during the construction of the Southern Rockade.

The Southern Rockade is part of Moscow’s new chord system of highways along with the South-Eastern, North-Eastern, and North-Western Chords. The Rockade will connect the capital’s major motorways: the Moscow Automobile Ring Road, Kutuzovsky Prospekt, Michurinsky Prospekt, Prospekt Vernadskogo, Leninsky Prospekt, Profsoyuznaya Street, Varshavskoye Shosse, Proletarsky Prospekt, Kashirskoye Shosse, and Lublinskaya Street.

The creation of a chord system of highways is the main project for the modern development of the capital’s road and transport framework. The chords will make straight access to the remote areas of the city, reducing the overall load on the street and road network of the central districts, the Moscow Automobile Ring Road, and the TTR. Currently, 65% of the sections of the chorded highway system have been put into operation.
