The construction of the safety screen of the tunnel is 50% complete
“The tunnel under the Moscow Automobile Ring Road (MKAD) being built as a part of the South-Eastern Chord section in Troitsky and Novomoskovsky Administrative District is about one-third complete”, said Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Planning and Construction. Mosinzhproekt Engineering Holding is the general contractor and general designer of several sections of the South-Eastern Chord.
“At present, the construction of the safety screen of the tunnel, which is 50% complete, is underway on the section of the South-Eastern Chord from the Moscow Automobile Ring Road to the Solntsevo-Butovo-Varshavskoe Shosse arterial road. With a length of more than a hundred meters, the tunnel is 30% complete,” said Andrey Bochkarev.
According to him, the closed part of the tunnel will be 64.8 meters long, and the rest will be open ramp sections.
“The demand for building a safety screen is due to the closed method of constructing the tunnel under the 32nd kilometer of the Moscow Automobile Ring Road. Its use will allow not to restrict traffic on the Moscow Automobile Ring Road,” explained the Deputy Mayor.
In his turn, Yuri Kravtsov, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC, said that other artificial structures are also being erected in this section of the South-Eastern Chord.
“Currently, the off-ramp is under construction from the Moscow Automobile Ring Road to the South-Eastern Chord towards the Moscow Region where nine supports out of 16 are finished, the construction of the overpass through the Moscow Automobile Ring Road has started: two supports out of three are under construction, and the construction of the pedestrian crossing across the Varshavskoe Schosse and the Kurskoye direction of Moscow Railway continues – the two out of the ten supports are being constructed,” specified the holding head.
It is expected that when traffic starts on the South-Eastern Chord, the adjacent highways will be offloaded and transport services of the south and south-east of the capital, and the districts of the New Moscow will be significantly improved.
The chord system of high-speed roadways being formed in the capital, including the North-Western, North-Eastern, and South-Eastern Chords, and Southern Rokade is the key project in the modern development of the road transport network in Moscow. Chords are designed to connect the remote districts of the capital, thereby offloading the central arteries of the Third Ring Road and the Moscow Automobile Ring Road.
