It will become the first Russian airport with its own metro station
“Tunnelling of the first tunnel on the Solntsevskaya Line to Vnukovo Airport is complete. The ‘Rosa’ tunnel boring machine implemented the scope of work”, said Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Planning and Construction.
Mosinzhproekt Engineering Holding is a general designer and general contractor to construct new lines and stations of the Moscow metro.
“The ‘Rosa’ tunnel boring machine has completed the left running tunnel from the metro bridge near the Pykhtino station under construction to the excavation pit of the prospective Vnukovo station of the Solntsevskaya Line on the territory of the same name airport: this is the first tunnel of the Moscow underground which has been tunnelled to the operating Moscow airport”, said Andrey Bochkarev.
According to him, the work was carried out at a depth of up to 16.5 metres and the length of the tunnel route exceeded a kilometre.
“Along the road, the ‘Rosa’ went under the highways and road overpasses of New Moscow, as well as under the residential development of the Vnukovskoye settlement of the Troitsky and Novomoskovsky Districts of Moscow”, specified the Deputy Mayor.
Yuri Kravtsov, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC, explained that despite the abundance of underground utilities along the route, including collectors, metro builders coped with all the challenges, having completed the tunneling in 4.5 months.
“Previously, the ‘Rosa’ TBM was involved in the construction of tunnels in the south of the Big Circle Line, and also tunnelled one of the running tunnels between the operating Rasskazovka station and the future Pykhtino station on the current section of the Solntsevsky radius extension”, added the head of the holding.
He also recalled that the “Natalia” TBM, which is tunnelling the adjacent right tunnel, has already covered over 300 metres, which is about one third of the planned length of the route.
“In parallel, the structures of both station complexes of the new Solntsevskaya Line section, Pykhtino and Vnukovo, are being constructed: in-situ concreting is in full swing on them”, said Yuri Kravtsov. He estimated the general construction readiness of the new stations to be one-third and 20% complete, respectively.
It is expected that after the commissioning of the new section of the Solntsevskaya Line, the transport accessibility to Troitsky and Novomoskovky Districts of Moscow will be enhanced globally and Vnukovo will become the first Russian airport with its own metro station available.
