The length of the future tunnel will exceed 1,400 metres
“Tunnel boring machine (TBM) ‘Ludmila’ started construction of the left running tunnel between the future Vavilovskaya and Novatorskaya stations of the future Troitskaya metro line”, said Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Planning and Construction.
Mosinzhproekt Engineering Holding is the managing company to construct new lines and stations of Moscow Metro.
“Driving of the left running tunnel between the Vavilovskaya and Novatorskaya stations under construction on the future Troitskaya metro line started, the work is being accomplished by TBM Herrenknecht S-484 ‘Lyudmila’ with a diameter of 6 metres”, Andrey Bochkarev noted.
According to the Deputy Mayor, at the Vavilovskaya station, where “Lyudmila” started its work, installation of the pit retaining structures is being completed and earthworks are already in full swing, excavation in particular.
“At the same time, construction of both running tunnels towards Akademicheskaya continues. Construction of the central section will ensure the required integration of the Troitskaya line into the Moscow transport network, creating an additional link with the metro and MCC stations”, emphasized Andrey Bochkarev.
He specified, that the neighbouring section of this line from Novatorskaya to Bachurinskaya is at a higher degree of construction completion, tunnel-driving of its second-to-last, the ninth, tunnel has been recently completed by TBM “Eugeniya”, and which connected the future Mamyri and Bachurinskaya stations.
Yuri Kravtsov, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC, added that construction of a railway haul from the Vavilovskaya station would provide the necessary connection between the central section of the Troitskaya line and the section from Novatorskaya to Bachurinskaya”.
“The length of the future tunnel will exceed 1,400 metres, it will pass under the roadway of Leninsky Prospekt in soils of fine and silty sands, replaced by soils of medium-hard loams mixed with crushed stone”, Yuri Kravtsov said.
General Director also specified, that the work was complicated by numerous engineering utilities running along the route of the future tunnel, as well as a pedestrian underpass crossing Leninsky Avenue.
“Previously, this tunnel-boring shield was used to develop the Kalininsky and Solntsevsky subway radii, passing in total more than 9 km of the underground routes”, reminded Yuri Kravtsov.
The Troitskaya metro line, being 40 km long, will connect the platforms of the Moscow Central Circle (MCC) with the city district of Troitsk, going through the Southern, South-Western, Troitsky and Novomoskovsky districts of the capital city. The expected daily passenger traffic is around 100 thousand people per day. About one million people live near the new stations, and several hundred thousand more work or study nearby.
