TUNNELLING BETWEEN VAVILOVSKAYA AND AKADEMICHESKAYA IS ONE-THIRD COMPLETE

Troitskaya Line will connect Troitsk city district with Moscow Central Circle

“Tunnelling between the Vavilovskaya and Akademicheskaya stations of the prospective Troitskaya Line is more than 30% complete”, said Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Planning and Construction.

Mosinzhproekt Engineering Holding is a general designer and general contractor to construct the new lines and stations of the Moscow metro.

“The ‘Marina’ and ‘Olga’ tunnel boring machines (TBM) which are involved in the construction of the running tunnel, have covered about 860 m of the left running tunnel and 750 m of the right running tunnel, respectively”, said Andrey Bochkarev.

According to the head of the Construction Complex, it exceeds 30% of the planned tunnelling of 2.5-kilometre-long underground route.

“The ‘Lyudmila’ and ‘Svetlana’ TBMs, which have been tunnelling the opposite direction from the Vavilovskaya station complex, have covered roughly the same distance to Novatorskaya under construction”, added Andrey Bochkarev.

Yuri Kravtsov, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC, specified that the ‘Lyudmila’ shield, which is tunneling through the left running tunnel to Novatorskaya, has covered more than 580 metres of the ground, while the ‘Svetlana’ TBM, operating in the adjacent tunnel, has covered 315 metres.

“The construction of the main structures of the platform has already started at the prospective Vavilovskaya: the first columns have appeared on it, while the earthwork and utilities network relocation are underway at Akademicheskaya”, informed Yuri Kravtsov.

The head of the engineering holding said that the general construction readiness of both stations is about 10%.

Recall, the Troitskaya Line being 40 km long will connect the platforms of the Moscow Central Circle (MCC) with the city district of Troitsk, going through the Southern, South-Western, Troitsky and Novomoskovsky districts of Moscow. About 1 million people live near the new stations, and several hundred thousand more work or study nearby.
