It will become the first airport in Russia with the metro station
“Construction of the right running tunnel between the future Pykhtino and Vnukovo stations has started. It will be the final tunnel in the new section of the Solntsevskaya line of the Moscow Metro to Vnukovo Airport”, said Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Planning and Construction.
Mosinzhproekt Engineering Holding is a general designer and general contractor to construct new lines and stations of the Moscow Metro.
“Yesterday, Sergei Semyonovich Sobyanin, Mayor of Moscow, announced the start of the tunneling of the right running tunnel between the Pykhtino and Vnukovo stations, which is over one kilometre long. This is the final tunnelling on the new section of the Solntsevskaya line to Vnukovo Airport”, specified Andrey Bochkarev.
According to him, the work is being carried out by the “Natalia” tunnel boring machine, which has previously built the right running tunnel between the future Pykhtino station and the operating Rasskazovka station.
“The tunneling is carried out in the territory of the Novomoskovsky and Western administrative districts of Moscow under the roadway of Borovskoye Shosse and Tsentralnaya Street of Vnukovo settlement and will be completed in the area of Vokzalnaya Square in front of Vnukovo Airport”, added the head of the Moscow Complex of Urban Planning Policy and Construction.

According to Yuri Kravtsov, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC, in parallel, the “Rosa” tunnel boring machine is implementing the tunnelling of the adjacent left running tunnel from Pykhtino to Vnukovo and has already covered about 500 metres of the track, which is half of the route of the future tunnel.
“Prior to that, ‘Rosa’ had tunnelled the left running tunnel from Pykhtino to Rasskazovka. After the completion of all tunnelling work on the new section, the Pykhtino and Vnukovo station complexes will be connected with each other and the operating Rasskazovka by four tunnels, with a total length of about 6.5 km”, clarified Yuri Kravtsov.
Earlier, Sergei Sobyanin, Mayor of Moscow, noted that the new section would significantly improve the transport situation in New Moscow: “When we finish this new section of the Solntsevskaya line, the transport accessibility of the Troitsky and Novomoskovky Districts of Moscow (TiNAO) will be improved, and Vnukovo will become the first airport in Russia with its own metro station,” specified the Mayor.
It is expected that after the completion of the section from Rasskazovka to Vnukovo, over 50 thousand passengers are going to use it daily, and the total length of the Solntsevsky radius of Moscow Metro will exceed 30 km.
