Four elevators installed
“An underground pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Verkhnie Polya and Maryinsky Park Streets was commissioned as part of construction of the fourth section of the Southern Rockade”, said Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Planning and Construction.
Mosinzhproekt Engineering Holding is a general contractor and general designer of a range of sections of the South-Eastern Chord, which will be incorporated into the Moscow High-Speed Diameter.
“With four elevators installed for the convenience of people with limited mobility, the underground passage will make Verkhnie Polya Street safer for pedestrians, and will increase its capacity”, said the Deputy Mayor.
He reminded, that in January this year, in line with construction of the Southern Rockade, reconstruction of the Moscow Ring Road was completed ahead of schedule at the section from Kashirskoye Highway to the road junction at the intersection of the Ring Road with Besedinskoye Highway, with a total length of about 1 km.
“Commencement of service along this section of the Southern Rockade reduced the traffic load in the southern and south-eastern parts of the Moscow Ring Road owing to the localized widening in this section”, specified Andrey Bochkarev.
Yuri Kravtsov, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC, noted that construction and reconstruction of the roads exceeding the length of 3.3 km is scheduled at the fourth section of the Southern Rockade, with Verkhnie Polya Street turning into a six-lane road once the work is completed.
“Completion of the fourth section of the Southern Rockade is 40%: heat distribution network is being developed here, as well as a fire wall is being built, and the utilities are being removed”, specified Yuri Kravtsov.
The Head of Mosinzhproekt added that in spring it is planned to proceed with provision of urban amenities in the surrounding area, comprising the landscaping of 8 hectares of lawn, planting around 630 trees and more than 21 thousand shrubs.
The Southern Rockade is part of Moscow’s new chord system of highways along with the South-Eastern, North-Eastern, and North-Western Chords.
The Rockade will connect the capital’s major motorways: MKAD, Kutuzovsky Prospekt, Michurinsky Prospekt, Prospekt Vernadskogo, Leninsky Prospekt, Profsoyuznaya Street, Varshavskoye Highway, Proletarsky Prospekt, Kashirskoye Highway, and Lublinskaya Street.
